First I'll tell you where I'm not. I'm not in the penthouse of a multi-million-dollar high-rise. I'm not in a fancy office surrounded by noisy people wearing Armani suits and Versace underwear and wielding Palm Pilots, Mobile Sidekicks, and Mont Blanc pens. I'm not in the Windy City or the Big Apple or Silicon Valley.

And why am I starting to sound like Tom Bodette?

Where I am is in Muskegon, Michigan, a tiny resort town on the Lake Michigan shoreline. I work out of my home, which means I don't have a lot of overhead. Clients like that because they get great work without paying through the nose for fancy ambience.

This location is perfect because it's halfway between Chicago and Detroit, yet unlike those cities it doesn't take four hours to drive where you want to go.

Here is an article I wrote about Muskegon for the January/February 2005 issue of Michigan Municipal Review. And here's another article I wrote that appeared in the Muskegon Chronicle on July 5, 1998. One person said it was a little snippy, but I prefer to think of it as brutally honest.  To see Muskegon for yourself, click the links below.
